and corporate social responsibility. These forums will be the very fi rst time that global leaders representing these sectors have gathered to form strategies on how best to solve their biggest challenges – and capitalise on the biggest opportunities ahead.
Dalai Lama to give an address Summit Days Two and Three promise a range of amazing keynote speeches, research presentations and panels on hot industry topics. With a keen focus on giving delegates the practical knowledge they need to grow their business, this year’s event will truly offer some pure inspiration. I am honored to confi rm that Nobel Peace Prize winner and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, will deliver a keynote speech at this year’s summit. Adding to the agenda, a top representative from the government of Bhutan will explain the workings of his nation’s visionary ‘Gross National Happiness Index.’
Further presentations will educate delegates on the profound impact that South Asian spa, wellness and healing traditions have had historically as well as revealing the many spa, hospitality and tourism opportunities percolating across the region.
Attendees will hear from movers-and-shakers
like Raymond Bickson, managing director and CEO of Taj Hotels & Resorts; Vikram Oberoi, Managing Director, Oberoi Group; and Analjit Singh, chairman and managing director of Max India Group.
Research highlights will include presentations
from McCann Truth Central on ‘The Truth About Wellness’ and Euromonitor International’s introduction to its new health and wellness tourism reports. Furthermore, numerous expert-led panels will focus on helping spa/wellness businesses to grow, discussing innovations across the spa industry, opportunities in the corporate wellness space, must-know technology developments and how to best attract investors.
A competitive edge
The summit underwrites two unique competitions this year. The annual Student Challenge will see teams from major Indian universities designing a wellness concept/spa resort of the future, encompassing authentic Indian culture, that can be rolled out globally. We also introduce our fi rst-ever infographics competition – open to anyone over the age of 18, anywhere – which places US$5,000 on the table for the most creative, informative representation of information relating to any aspect of spa/wellness.

An exceptional location The 2013 summit will take place at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, voted the world’s leading luxury hotel in the World Travel Awards for the last two years. Anyone who has attended a previous conference knows that business and pleasure are always mixed and many gala dinners and social networking events are planned. Before the event starts, delegates have an opportunity to be among the fi rst to experience the extraordinary Vana, Malsi Estate in the Himalayan foothills, destined to become one of the most talked-about wellness destinations in the world. Alternatively, why not take a post- Summit trip to Kerala, the mecca of Ayurveda? Every year I get excited about the forward- thinking topics, high-level keynote speeches and important research initiatives we weave into our agenda but I can honestly say I’m more excited about 2013 than any other before. I really believe it will prove a ‘defi ning moment’ – both professionally and personally – for the hundreds of industry leaders who will attend.
The goal is to get more people thinking about spa and wellness – communicating the exciting job opportunities and career options in our industry, as well as the concept that spa, wellness, and technology are joined together.
