of wellness for its guests. “As a result of designing the spa’s salon area in the ratio of the Golden Section, we’ve created an energetically ‘pure’ zone where both guests and staff are part of the flow of positive life energy within the spa,” she enthuses.

“This special atmosphere is intended to neutralise the negative influences of the surrounding urban environment as well as contributing towards improving our clients’ immune systems and general health,” says Prigoghina. “Meanwhile, for our staff, it increases their energy levels, meaning the quality of our treatment delivery never wavers.”

Healing minerals The spa’s ancient influences extend to the music that can be heard throughout, which was recorded in the central chamber of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. The therapeutic effect of the soundtrack is further intensified by chromotherapy supplied by Unbescheiden. The sense of holistic energy is further boosted by the

spa’s large collection of minerals, sourced from all over the world and including some artifacts more than 500 million years old. “All the minerals were chosen for their positive energy associations and were brought to our spa from a range of special places around the globe,”

says Prigoghina. “We believe they radiate with the energy of an ancient environment, which subliminally helps our guests in their attainment of a deeply relaxed state.” Spa consultant Elena Bogacheva, president of Russia’s

Spa and Wellness International Council, believes the Crystal Spa & Lounge is remarkable for having achieved an absolute balance between its ‘explicit’ and ‘implicit’ components. “You feel a very special atmosphere from the moment you enter the spa,” says Bogacheva. “The expertise of the staff – from the therapists to the spa’s chef – is outstanding and all these elements combine to ensure that it fits perfectly into the highly competitive luxury spa market in St Petersburg.”

Classical style and a modern taste The spa’s warm interiors were created by French designer Marc Prigent and feature sophisticated Italian furniture, ornate gilded mirrors and crystal chandeliers to create a sense of elegant luxury. Large windows and glass screens are combined with wooden décor and large, leafy plants to represent the united elements of sun, water, air and earth. The only exception is the spa’s thermal area, which has been created with strong Moroccan accents to underline the continuation of authentic traditions related to the hammam and rasul.
