The relaxation lounge (pictured on previous page) epitomises this sense of homeliness with its dramatic wooden ceiling and central fireplace around which guests can relax on large and indulgent sofas. “This is effectively the heart of the spa,” says Scherz. “The hotel has always been a place where people in Gstaad meet and we wanted to re-create this feeling in the spa. The lounge area enables our spa guests to gather between treatments for a drink and a chat.” The spa’s design also allows it to evolve – it has been purposely designed with a hollow floor and few structural walls so it can easily accommodate changes in layout in the future.

A star attraction Roger Bernet, an advisor to Migros, Switzerland’s largest retailer, and also an operator of fitness and spa facilities, provided spa consultancy services for the Palace’s development. The spa offers eight treatment rooms equipped by MTR Health & Spa; separate male and female saunas and steam rooms supplied by Lädrach Holzbau; and relaxation areas with incredible views. enjoyed from the indoor pool, the outdoor pool with Jacuzzi, the Pilates studio and the compact gym, equipped by Technogym. A private spa suite comprising a sauna, steam


room, spa bath, lounge area, two massage tables and showering and changing facilities allows guests to enjoy an even more intimate spa experience. However, the star attraction at the Palace Spa is its hammam. Designed for couples or for individual use, the spa’s unique Hammam Experience is one of its most popular offerings. A two-hour experience which takes guests through seven rooms, the ritual begins with a soothing foot bath, followed by a short period of relaxation in the Infinity room. The journey continues with a cleansing soap foam body massage, which is followed by a steam bath and a dip in the floating pool. After a break in the private relaxation room, a moisturising oil massage completes the luxurious experience.
