Leica: New Materials Microscope Has LED Illumination

Wetzlar, Germany —The new materi- als microscope Leica DM2700 M from Leica Microsystems is suitable for all kinds of routine inspection tasks in metallography, earth science, forensic investigation, and materials quality control and research. It offers users state-of-the-art universal white-light LED illumination with high-quality Leica optics. The ultra-bright, high-power

LED illumination provides users with a constant color temperature of 4500K for brightfield, darkfield, interference contrast, and polarized

light methods. In addition, users can visualize improved surface inspec- tion details with built-in oblique illu- mination technology. Real color imaging with all brightness intensity levels and lower cost of ownership are realized with the long lifetime and low power consumption of LED illumination technology. Reduced risk of error and ease

of operation are easily obtained with the company’s intuitive Color Coded Diaphragm Assistant (CCDA). Users are guided through the basic settings of resolution, contrast, and depth of

field, ensuring accuracy and repeata- bility.

Greater comfort and productivi-

ty are achieved by using the built-in focus stop, the height adjustable focus knobs, as well as the three-gear focusing mechanism. These features provide users with a convenient and reliable tool for daily use. The new instrument is a reli-

able materials microscope for a wide variety of applications: for inspec- tion, process control, and defect analysis of electronic components, it offers high optical resolution to

same color. The highly ergonomic design makes the instrument suit- able for users in laboratory environ- ments. The ergonomic features help prevent muscular tension or fatigue and make routine work as comfort- able and effortless as possible. The microscope’s intuitive operation means it easily adapts to various user levels. Finally, its robust stand makes it suitable even for challeng- ing working conditions in industrial

quality control. Contact: Leica Microsystems,

Low Profile SMT Power Inductors from Murata

Mansfield, MA — Murata has released the 3000A and 3000B series of low profile power inductors for use in noise reduction circuits of high fre- quency and high current switching power supplies, DC-DC converters and voltage regulator modules. The 3000A series is available

with 80, 100, 150 or 200nH inductance values. Maximum rated peak current is 57 Amps for the 80nH device. Typical RDC is only 0.20mWacross the series. The devices have inductance values of 85, 100, 120, 150 or 200nH and a maximum rated current of 78A for the 85nH inductor. RDC is also extremely low and is typically 0.29mW. Using a low-loss core material,

combined with low series resistance gives the inductors a high overall efficiency. The low inductance values are suitable for high frequency appli- cations while the compact low-profile dimensions, 7.1 x 7.0 x 4.96mm for the 3000A series, make them suit- able for designs where available board space is at a premium. Both series are available in sur- face mount packages suiting high

volume manufacturing. Contact: Murata Power
