Beckhoff Intros EtherCAT Power and Distribution Box
Burnsville, MN — Beckhoff Automa - tion has introduced the new EP9214 power distributor box. This solution enables the local distribution and switching off of the power supply, providing the ability to supply up to four NEC class-2 circuits via typical M8 plug connectors. This innovative I/O solution also provides complete diagnostics and control functionality for up to eight 24VDC branch circuits (Us and Up power) per power box. The IP67-rated EtherCAT Box
I/O modules typically use M8 plug connectors for supplying power, which (according to NEC Class 2 wiring) is limited to 100VA and are suitable for a maximum amperage of 4A. Therefore, it may not be possible
to simply loop the supply through when modules have a large number of outputs. A further limitation concerns
the cables: the M8 plug connectors can only be used up to a maximum cable cross-section of 0.34mm2 (#22AWG). If the cables from the con- trol cabinet to the machine are long, an excessive voltage drop can occur at higher currents. As a result, the 24VDC voltage (±15/20 percent) can no longer be maintained and the modules or connected sensors/actua- tors may no longer work properly. The EP9214 power box is the
most suitable solution for these chal- lenges. Equipped with 7/8-in. (22.2mm) plug connectors, it main-

Virtual Industries Intros New Wafer-Vac System
Colorado Springs, CO — Virtual Industries Inc. has introduced its new WAFER-VAC system with 8-in. (203mm) molded wafer tip (WV- 9000-MW8). The product is a gener- al-purpose wafer vacuum handling tool that plugs directly into 110V 50/60Hz. The compact unit handles a wide variety of wafers, solar cells and other substrates. The long-life diaphragm vacuum pump generates up to 10-in. of mercury (33864 Pascal) with an open air flow of 2.3lpm. The unit connects to ground automatically with a three-wire power cord.
