A packed ISPE programme of presentations at this year’s SPATEX included several highlights. On Day One, Andrew James delivered a valuable insight into control panels for swimming pools covering essential components for the pool industry including 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations while Howard Gosling reminded attendees of the Transport of Dangerous Goods, 2013. Plastica’s Will Dando focused our attention on the conservation of heat, energy, water and treatment products, saying knowledge was power and prevention better than cure. Cyril Potter detailed information regarding the tiling of swimming pool tanks and surrounds emphasizing the importance of efficient drainage and working to British Standards. Theo Millward urged leisure managers not to limit their view of technology to social media, but rather to think about their business needs.

slides for the same steps on the big screen so that everyone could follow each step.


Graham Kneale offered some headline tips on saving pool heating costs, supported by illustrations of the measurements and logic behind them.


Plastica’s Will Dando focused our attention on the conservation of heat, energy, water and treatment products.


Ian Betts FISPE explained the inside track on Euro Code 2 the British concrete design standard, which has been in place since 2010. Allen Wilson FISPE tackled the topical issue of Legionnaires’ Disease, reminding us that it is still a real threat to pool and spa operators.


GOLDEN RULES On Day Two, Bob Baylis alongside Ettore Parisi, presented the principles and golden rules for chemical dosing while leading expert, Rachel Chalmers BSc, PhD, questioned why outbreaks of cryptosporidium in swimming pools, are still occurring, and asked how the risks could be minimised.
