Westcroft Welcomes 6,000 Visitors
ABOVE: Residents of the London Borough of Sutton turned out in their thousands to see the £11m improvements to their local leisure centre.
A multi-sport approach helped attract 6,000 visitors to a special Open Day at Westcroft Leisure Centre. The event, held at the end of January, was the first chance for local people to see how a £11m investment has improved their local leisure facilities in the London borough of Sutton that will be managed by Everyone Active.
Celebrity compere, swimming Olympian Steve Parry, encouraged visitors to sign up for membership throughout the day as breaststroke silver medallist Michael Jamieson and Women’s GB water polo captain Fran Leighton spent the day getting local children involved in water based activities. Out of the water, Olympic gymnast and bronze medallist Kristian Thomas performed a gymnastic display and gymnastics workshops while Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers Kristina Rihanoff and Ian Waite helped to publicise the launch of an Everyone Active School of Dance at the centre. By the end of the open day 1,200 people also registered for swimming lessons with Everyone Active, the largest swimming lesson provider in the UK. To date, a massive 23,500 people have registered for an Everyone Active card, which allows casual use at the centre. Team GB 110m hurdler Andy Turner who lives near the Westcroft Leisure Centre and is an Everyone Active customer said, “The opening event is obviously a great success – I’ve never seen so many people and they have just kept coming in all day: this place is packed! There is a general feeling of amazement at the transformation of the Westcroft and I think it will be a huge success.” “A huge thank you to everyone that helped make our open
day a success,” said Duncan Jefford, South East Regional Director at Everyone Active. “The public loved engaging with the athletes and celebrities who did a fantastic job of highlighting the superb facilities Westcroft Leisure Centre has to offer. We expect to see membership levels grow even more over the next six months.” Sports Leisure Management (SLM) operates the Everyone Active brand in operating 80 leisure venues nationwide in partnership with 28 different local authorities and employs over 5,000 staff members.
