Green Light For Leamington’s New Flume
UK fl ume and water slide specialists Loyal Grove Leisure have recently replaced the family fl ume ride at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre in Leamington Spa.
The project involved removing and disposing of the old fl ume installation including all existing steel supports and a corroded staircase that no longer conformed to current regulations. The new fl ume layout was designed to follow a similar path and include a new modular fi breglass staircase with platform. All new support steel was manufactured from mild steel, hot dipped galvanised to BS.EN.1461, treated with Mordant T-wash and decorated with a two pack epoxy polyurethane paint system. Existing fl oor tiles and screed were removed locally to expose the structural concrete slab and the positions of new support bases were set-out and marked on site using digital survey equipment. A new fl ume ride control system was fi tted consisting of LED
traffi c lights triggered by high speed detection sensors to manage fl ume entry and assist staff supervision.
The system also included a ride counter facility to record the number of users.
Loyal Grove worked closely with local building contractors Pinner & Sons Limited to complete the project for Warwick District Council. As members of the World Waterpark Association (WWA)
