Pool & Spa Scene: SERVICE

> when they need servicing work done – rather than having service contracts in place.”

Bryan has been in the industry for 30 years, the company having been founded by his father. The family has been building pools for more than 40 years.

He says that pool servicing is a major part of the business because the industry is waiting for an upturn in the economy – and the weather.

NEW BUILDS

“There is no doubt that the weather has played a major part in fewer outdoor pools being built,” he says. “The majority of our new builds are indoor and we are looking for the weather to improve by May so that people will start to relook at plans they

may have put on hold in the last couple of years.”

Refurbishing old pools has also taken an upturn. “Pools that have become old and tired may just need a good service and clean- up,” says Bryan, “while others may require more extensive work. “Our architects are constantly looking at new projects and we get plenty of enquiries, but there is little doubt that we need some really decent weather for some of those outdoor projects to move ahead.” Keith Saunders, contracts director of Jetform Pools, based in Colchester, Essex, has seen a massive increase in the amount of servicing business.

“It is a large part of what we do these days,” he says. “We can look at up to 200 pools on a weekly or fortnightly basis for maintenance – both indoor and outdoor and domestic and commercial – depending on the time of year.

“The commercial and indoor pools have their scheduled weekly or fortnightly visits throughout the year. When outdoor domestic pools are opened in April they have fortnightly visits throughout the season and until closing in September – although we do have some hardy customers who like to swim late into the winter, or all year round.
