Pool & Spa Scene: SPATA AWARDS


ABOVE: Popular winners of two golds and one silver in the concrete outdoor pools categories were the Poolworx team from Essex.

The overseas category was once again dominated by Belhasa Projects that swept the board in the domestic pools category and also took gold in the commercial overseas category. The awards were presented at a cabaret dinner style event held at The Grand, Brighton in February. SPATA shared the event with its sister trade association, the British and Irish Hot Tub


ABOVE: Jetform Services, took gold in the category for residential pools up to £100k.


Association on an evening that saw Martin Borley, of Tanby Pools, take over as president of the holding company, the British Swimming Pool Federation, from John Scott, of EPS. The Paul Kite award for Pool Star of the Year was presented to Luke Hill of Deep End Pools, described by his company as the most honest, hard working, dedicated and knowledgeable young professional they have met in the industry. At the age of just 31, Luke has the experience most would dream of having towards the end of their careers and his work is always to the highest standard.

Greeted with a standing ovation, the winner of the Outstanding Service to the Industry award was John Asher of Asher SwimPool Centre. A President of the Association in the 1980s, John has also been very active with The Institute Of Swimming Pool Engineers and also with SPATEX, where he was recognised for this work at a previous Gala Dinner. After stepping back from the business in 2000, his interests include the Rotary Club and the Charity ‘Trade Aid’, which he is the founder. n
