NORMA Group - Expanding global presence
NORMA Group, an international market and technology leader in engineered joining technology, set sails for growth in 2006, the year of its establishment, and has been walking the talk ever since its foundation. Here the company talks about its plans for Fastener Fair Stuttgart, in Germany, but first takes a closer look at its activities during the previous twelve months.
Spot on Asia-Pacific In 2012 NORMA Group was busy expanding its global presence and thus enhancing its customer proximity, as well as adding new solutions to its product portfolio. In the Asia-Pacific region, the company ventured in many new markets to build brand awareness and establish distribution partnerships. For instance, NORMA Group opened a new distribution office in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in the beginning of 2012. In addition, representative offices were established in Manila, Philippines, and in Jakarta, Indonesia, in May in order to sell joining technology products through various distribution channels to distributors, OEM aftermarket customers, technical wholesalers and hardware stores. In Malaysia, Thailand, India and China the company has enlarged its already existing sales teams and built up distribution networks. Furthermore, the group has intensified efforts in developing the business in India where it now covers the five major industrial regions with more than 45 distributors. Here, where the demand for engineered joining technology has been increasing constantly during the past years, the company built a new production site in Talegaon near Pune and inaugurated it on 27th
October 2012.
valves, tubes and joining solutions for medical applications. Connectors also offers consultancy and planning services for pharmaceutical process plants. In July NORMA Group moved on to acquire Nordic Metalblok Srl, an Italian company that produces clamps for various applications particularly for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry, as well as the agricultural and construction sectors.
Developments in Europe Asia-Pacific is without doubt a region with a high growth
potential. However, the group was busy in Europe as well. The demand for innovative joining technology remains healthy in this region. In July 2012, a new distribution centre was opened in Moscow to strengthen the relationships with customers, particularly in Russia and Eastern Europe and to meet the increasing demand for NORMA Group product solutions. In September, it put an assembly system into operation in its German facility of Gerbershausen. The new machine will produce about 70,000 joining elements for exhaust pipes connectors per week for a leading European automotive group. In Newbury, UK, NORMA Group constructed a new production
hall to provide additional production and storage capacity for NORMACONNECT V profile clamps for the European market. At the same time, capacities for the manufacturing of the clamps were set up in the Chinese facility in Qingdao. Both plants work closely together, setting up identical production processes and tools for this product segment, and transferring know-how to make sure that clients will be offered the same high quality joining technology across the world. NORMACONNECT V profile clamps are connecting elements for flange pipes used in various applications including exhaust, cooling and filter systems, turbochargers, water treatment, supply pipes and air conditioning systems.
Fastener Fair Stuttgart 2013: The Talegaon staff will among other things support the design
work for NORMA Group in many regions of the world including Australia, Europe, Japan, Korea, and North America.
New kids on the block Growth to the group does not only mean expanding its global
presence. It is also about growing its product portfolio either by R&D efforts or by acquiring companies that complement NORMA Group’s product offering. The company thus expanded its range of infrastructure products by venturing into the water management market. In October 2012 NORMA Group obtained an 85% stake in Malaysia-based Chien Jin Plastic Sdn Bhd. The company’s thermoplastic joining elements are mainly used in drinking and domestic water supply systems. It also manufactures components for sanitary appliances. This acquisition was the last one of the company’s 2012 hat-trick. In April, NORMA Group acquired the Swiss company Connectors Verbindungstechnik AG – a specialist in clamps,

Focus on lightweight solutions and easy assembly NORMA Group will showcase its comprehensive portfolio of clamps and connecting elements of the brands ABA, Breeze and NORMA. Visitors will be shown, just to mention a few, the spring-loaded Breeze T-Bolt clamp, as well as the Breeze V-Band coupling, which is typically applied in heavy duty diesel engine exhaust systems and turbochargers. In addition, the new worm-drive clamp NORMACLAMP Torro Tamper Proof will be exhibited. It has a special bolt head that can only be mounted and removed by way of a matching tool. Other samples include the NORMACONNECT FGR product
range. The pipe coupling is a connection suitable to join thick- and thin-walled plastic and metal pipes and especially pipes made from stainless steel. NORMACONNECT couplings are used in mechanical engineering and construction, shipbuilding, civil engineering and in hydro technology. The pipe coupling can be joined quickly and easily without the necessity of prior pipe alignment or treatment of pipe ends. Furthermore, the couplings are light, reusable and can be used in narrow spaces.
