NFDA stresses growth and partnerships at Fastener Fair


The National Fastener Distributors Association (NFDA) has announced its plans to exhibit at Fastener Fair Stuttgart.


A


ccording to Vickie Lester, executive vice president for NFDA, the group will promote the role of North American distributors as global companies capable of supplying a broad spectrum of fasteners and related


products to a worldwide marketplace. NFDA also plans a number of value-added activities for its


members who plan on attending. These include meeting with the U.S. Department of Commerce representative in Stuttgart and hosting a group dinner for North American visitors to the show. The group also plans to have someone associated with the


show give an orientation to members prior to the Fair. “Our members are involved in distribution of every type of


fastener required by OEMs worldwide,” Vickie Lester said. “This includes a variety of non-threaded products as well as the value added services needed to support them.” The Fastener Fair provides an ideal forum for North American


distributors to make connections worldwide. Ms Lester cited other advantages of attending the show including: Distributors are seeking growth through new products/product lines and the fair is key to finding these new supplier partners. Part of this growth strategy includes increasing capital-equipment spending. The fair provides a unique shopping opportunity to find suppliers for a variety of machinery and equipment.


Like any business, distributors are often looking to expand their businesses either through acquisitions or by partnering with organisations in other parts of the world. The fair attracts business people from 86 countries presenting numerous possibilities for these interactions in one location. Finding skilled personnel for global operations is always a


challenge and the fair can help connect distributors with a wide array of talent including sales and marketing, customer service, engineering, IT and logistics. The fair gives great exposure to a distributor’s value added


services including kitting/assembly, re-packaging and private labeling. Overall, the fair is a great forum for learning about the latest


technologies that can reduce costs and increase efficiencies. NFDA serves fastener distributors in North America by


providing them with tools they need to be competitive in a global marketplace. This includes networking opportunities at two major functions a year, plus additional opportunities through international events like the Fastener Fair. Education is also a major emphasis of the association making

capacity with the purchase of additional CNC lathes to support its growing international order book for steel and bespoke threaded inserts for composites and light metal alloys. The company has also recently engaged additional trainees on


a 3 year apprenticeship scheme for manufacturing staff in order to meet longer term technical resourcing requirements.
