MANAGEMENT + SYSTEMS

Recognising the signs of the times

Wagener & Simon WASI Gmbh & Co KG is a global systems partner for stainless steel fasteners. Here Dirk Kiele-Dunsche, WASI managing director, explains what makes a supplier successful and the importance of coordinated logistic systems.

What makes suppliers successful these days? In the past, a wholesaler had his warehouse and supplied

his wares after receiving the orders by post and telephone or later on by the totally innovate channel, the fax machine. Today, while the basic principle has remained the same, everything else has changed. The requirements placed on suppliers have become manifold. They range from customised packaging and individual packaging units to direct deliveries in the name of the customer, from barcodes on delivery notes and different types of supply systems to automatic data exchange. Those who wish to differentiate themselves as suppliers from the competition must custom-fit the deliveries of fasteners to the processes of industrial enterprises and wholesale dealers, in order to make a significant contribution to facilitating their procurement management and goods handling. After all, the customers themselves also face competition and therefore want to decrease process times, costs and risks while simultaneously increasing their profit margin.

between customers and suppliers. Suppliers must design customised e-business modules together with their customers in order to simplify the procurement process considerably. This allows companies to automatise their order processes and design their entire procurement process - from product selection and ordering to delivery - in a more efficient, timesaving, secure and error-free way.

System-driven logistics A best considered logistics concept, in conjunction with the right availability strategy, also reduces storage costs and procurement-related risks for the customer. Services such as order assembly, commissioning, packaging and labelling make the processes of receiving and handling of goods faster, more flexible and more cost-effective. Within the framework of direct deliveries, suppliers dispatch goods directly to the customers of their customers. This way, wholesale dealers or industrial enterprises with on-site mounting, can concentrate on disposal and sales or production duties. The goods arrive directly where they will be needed or used. Moreover, individual pre-assembly of goods speeds up further processing and thus the purchase order and invoice process of the customer, as the goods need not go through a further time of being unpacked and repacked.

Always the appropriate quality Professional vendor management also means that experts inspect suppliers and their products directly at the production

The right IT setup is essential A great help is having the right IT setup. A broad range of

IT features and e-business software applications are available for companies to facilitate their procurement of fasteners and thereby directly lower their process costs. The spectrum ranges from product databases to online product searches, online shops and ordering, to electronic product catalogue management with BMEcat, CSV files and eCl@ss as well as interfaces and data communication via standardised interfaces. An important element in this regard is electronic data interchange (EDI), which replaces paper documents with electronic documents. This also increases the speed and decreases the error rate of processes

site. This method of quality assurance ensures that products will be delivered in the right quality and therefore prevents delivery delays due to complaints.

Faster, more direct, more secure and more cost-effective WASI has recognised the signs of the times and has positioned

itself over the past few years accordingly. As a global acting system partner for stainless-steel fasteners, we have a perfectly coordinated logistic concept and meet every requirement on an individual basis. Thanks to our tailored customised solutions, the procurement of standard and special fasteners from WASI is faster, more direct, more secure and more cost-effective.
