Andfast achieves CE and quality approvals

Having last year obtained exemption from EU anti-dumping duties on steel fasteners, Andfast Malaysia has now been audited by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

Andfast Malaysia has received the following

approvals: • BS EN 14399 CE • BS EN 15048 CE • BS EN ISO 9001 • Highways Sector Scheme Three

non-conformances for which a rectification plan was prepared and accepted by the auditor on the final day of the audit. For Andrews Fasteners and Andfast quality manager, Orsolya Kiss-Toth, this was her first quality systems audit outside the UK. “This was my first experience of a Chinese auditor and it was more intensive than audits I have experienced previously,” she said. “Both Andrews Fasteners and Andfast Malaysia operate using the same quality system, the Andrews Fasteners quality system has been assessed and approved previously by LRQA. However, as this was Andfast’s first external quality assessment, the auditor audited the Quality Manual, procedures, instructions and other quality documents word for word, going into the smallest detail.” Orsolya continued: “Each auditor has a

slightly different interpretation of the standard.

t a meeting in Tilburg, NEVIB, the Dutch Association of Importers of Fasteners and Related Industrial Products, was created. The Association will represent the interests of the fasteners industry towards the Dutch government in The Hague, and towards the European Union in Brussels. The guiding principle of NEVIB

policies is the promotion of free trade. Given its large annual turnover and several thousand jobs, NEVIB says, the Dutch

fasteners industry is an important economic business, and a major player in the Dutch construction sector. NEVIB says it will cooperate as much as possible with similar associations in other

European countries, and with the overarching European association, the European Fastener Distributor Association. Robert Klaasen of Eurobolt is president of NEVIB, with Vincent van Dijk acting as secretary, contactable at info@nevib.nl

The different viewpoints can be very beneficial in making the existing system even better. Working with a very experienced auditor has provided me with more knowledge of quality systems.” The benefit to Andfast and Andrews UK

- which owns Andfast - is that CE approved products can now be supplied from Andfast under its own CE and Highways approval. It also gives customers the confidence that the high quality requirements of Andrews are now also officially present at Andfast. From July 2013 fasteners used in the

construction industry must be CE approved and since September 2011 fasteners used on UK Highways projects must be supplied by Sector Scheme Three approved companies. Customers can now rely not just on Andrews Fasteners, which has held these approvals for several years, but also on Andfast. Andrews’ sales director Rob Surr

commented: “With all the quality approvals that Andrews Fasteners and Andfast hold we can only go from strength to strength. With no anti-dumping duties on our products from Malaysia our sales team are eager to serve all our existing and new customers.” www.andrewsfasteners.co.uk
