TOOLS Two divisions

Austrian manufacturer of rotating cutting tools - ALPEN-MAYKESTAG GmbH - produces high-quality tools under the strictest quality controls in its up-to-date factories.

and specialist trade with drill bits for metal, wood and masonry. ALPEN’s new products include special drill bits for cavity bricks, roof tiles and drill bits for the hardest types of granite. In the metal sector, the new HSS façade drill has a short spiral flute preventing the reaming of the hole in hollow profiles. ALPEN explains: “We set the same standards for our production as for our tools -

T

it must be productive, it must be commercially viable, and it must be state of the art. In order to ensure achievement of our high quality standards, we have kept the entire manufacturing process in our own hands and we manufacture exclusively on our production sites in Austria.” The MAYKESTAG business division supplies all types of cutting tools for the industrial connector trade and the

metalworking industry. 80% of its sales are exported, with Germany representing its major market. In addition to Europe, markets such as South Africa, South America and Asia also play an important role. With its

own sales companies in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary and sole agencies in over 70 countries, the family firm of ALPEN-MAYKESTAG is represented on all continents.

ITW Heller says that its new multi cutter drill bit - EnDuro SDS-max - has an excellent service life and is convincing in practical application.

H F

eller states that its EnDuro SDS-max’s high service life in concrete is due primarily to the design of the wide hard alloy wings on the head which make it robust and which will protect against wear. Its newly designed spiral and stable core achieves a high drilling progress. Especially for reinforcements, the drill bits have been strengthened so that four times the service life of an average two-flute cutter is achieved when drilling reinforcements.

In Heller’s new EnDuro multi-cutter range, the previous Y-Cutter is replaced in dimensions of up to 16mm by the Trijet design. All diameters from 18mm are provided with the new EnDuro Y-Cutter drill head design with new carbide tips.

Increasing power and protection

The new Makita BTD147 and BTD136 impact drivers feature brushless motor technology, short 129mm body length for compact space operation and enhanced water and dust protection.

or use in outdoor and harsh working conditions, the latest versions of 18V and 14.4V cordless impact drivers have a new motor body design that measures just 129mm from the front of the tool bit holder to the back of the body. Makita says that the new body design also provides the highest level of dust and drip protection available as internal airway mouldings allow heat away from the motor and reduce the risk of water and dust ingress.

Featuring Makita’s brushless motors, friction generated by traditional motors can be removed, delivering the motor power to

develop up to 170Nm of torque for the 18V model and 165Nm for the 14.4V model. These brushless motors do not generate as much friction heat which means more work can be done for each battery charge. Makita BTD147 and BTD136 brushless impact drivers are powered by 3.0Ah lithium-ion batteries with a 22 minute recharge time. A battery fuel gauge on the base of the grip-handle shows power remaining and the 3-levels of impact power selection controls are also located here. Up to 3,200 impacts per minute can be generated. Selection of the T for Tek mode is especially for use with ‘Tek’ self-drilling screws, often used for cladding installation. This ‘T’ mode selects the medium impact power and medium speed mode to provide efficient fastening without the risk of screw head damage.
