Striking the balance in Brazil

The second edition of Fastener Fair Brasil, staged in São Paulo in November, reflected even more organisational polish than the inaugural show – a shine slightly dulled by the impact of external events on visitor attendance.

O

ccasionally circumstances just conspire against the best-laid plans. São Paulo does traffic jams with a unique exuberance and the post-holiday gridlock on 21st

November was measured in hundreds of kilometres. Unfortunately, that was also the Fastener Fair‘s opening day – and the effect on visitor numbers was noticeable. Day two was a definite improvement, although a nearby political demonstration may well also have inhibited some visitors. The quality of those that attended appears to have

substantially offset the volume shortfall – leaving a good proportion of exhibitors both anecdotally and according to the organisers’ post show survey satisfied with business prospects from the event. Mack Brooks reported 3,090 attendees to the

show, again staged at the Expo Center Norte, between São Paulo city centre and its main airport and ring road. There were 2,475 actual visitors from 25 different countries. While the vast majority were Brazilian there was clearly wider interest from across Latin America with visitors from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Mexico. Exhibition research indicated that 60% of visitors

were senior decision makers. 38% of visitors were fastener and fixings manufacturers, 28% end users and 27% distributors or retailers. 39% said they were active in the automotive industry, with a further 14% involved in general engineering. Construction oriented visitors accounted for 18% and those involved in wholesaling 19%. Exhibition Manager Candyce Costa, said: “We

are delighted that the second Fastener Fair held in Brazil has been such a big success. Despite some inconvenience in travel to and from the venue on the second show day due to an unforeseen political demonstration in the city, the event proved to be busy and profitable for both exhibitors and visitors.” She added: “The overall success of the event

reflects the upbeat mood in the Brazilian economy which is seeing substantial investment in the country. We are confident to be able to expand the exhibition further, in view of the country’s rapidly developing economy and large-scale investments in infrastructure projects as Brazil is getting ready to host the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. We will be announcing the dates of the next Fastener Fair Brasil event very soon.”
