NEWS Time to reflect… Chris Bunting, general sales manager at Jubilee® Y retires after a mere 42 years with the UK hose clip manufacturer. An appropriate time to reflect…

ou don’t anticipate working for one company for 42 years, and yet that somehow seems to have happened. During that time, life, in all sorts of ways, has changed. In terms of business way of life, there have been huge changes. Written communication was sent by mail, then faxed now we have email. Then, of course,

there are customer expectation levels; these have increased dramatically, with instant response required. The core of business remains the same though, and at Jubilee that has always been quality, reliability and service. I have been very lucky in the time I have been with Jubilee. I’ve met customers

who are real characters, had great colleagues and I’ve established many close, long term relationships not only in the UK, but all over the world. For me this is not a time for looking back, but looking forward. The changing world in which we live presents enormous opportunities and although current economic conditions are dull, I believe there is an opportunity for smaller, light-footed businesses to thrive and prosper. Back to the changes that have gradually crept into my life over those 42 years, starting with the manual typewriter turning into electric and then electronic followed by the word processor, then to the computer and having to type everything yourself. Then there is social networking – ‘liking’, ‘connecting’, and tweeting. They all had a different meaning back in the day. A phone was to talk on, a laptop was a tray, a pad was a place to live and a tablet was for swallowing; as for a dongle…?

New general manager of Icon Fasteners

After seven years at specialist fasteners supplier, Icon Fasteners, Andrew Plows has taken up the reigns as general manager.

A T 20

s well as day-to-day operations and managing profitability, Andrew’s responsibilities include working with the specialist teams at Icon to bring new products, services and initiatives to the market.

Andrew is also championing customer service improvements

and believes that going the extra mile can make a big difference. “In these challenging times and with budgets continuing to be squeezed, a high level of service with quality, bespoke product provision are factors that add value and can make all the difference to securing and keeping customers seeking the right solutions. Working with skilled, flexible suppliers who are prepared to go the extra mile for their customers will pay dividends all round in terms of delivering on service and performance.”

He adds: “With today’s 24 hour society where time is always of

the essence, fast turnaround is something that many customers demand from their suppliers and speedy service is key to our philosophy and offering. It is companies who put the needs of the customer first that tend to keep ahead of the competition and indeed survive.” “To achieve this, we have continued to invest in our facilities, our equipment and our people. This has involved the establishment of a dedicated, five-strong finishing team, who personally handle orders for all specially finished parts. This includes the tracking of customers’ orders from placement and arrival at our facility, through the plating process, right up until final delivery.”

Continuing the industrial adventure

Carniere & Defossez has turned a corner in its history by leaving the Rousies site at which the company has manufactured fasteners since 1925, in order to re-establish itself in nearby Maubeuge.

he family-owned company has ceaselessly invested and evolved in recent years and operates new generation machinery, including new cold headers with up to five stations, to manufacture technical and complex cold formed parts. That is why it was also necessary, the company says, to evolve into state-of-the art industrial facilities. The integration of design and processing allows Carniere & Defossez to understand and respond to its

customers’ issues and now to propose a top-end approach to them. The new location provides the opportunity to welcome and support customers to a new workshop dedicated to stud welding and self-clinching, and to present its complete fastener technology range.
