The two companies have worked together for 16 years on numerous Ford vehicle adaptations.
“PPS was established in 1987 by Gary Amos and me,” said Joint MD Steve Whitworth. “Originally there were just the two of us, but now we employ 70 people, undertaking an extensive range of body designs on vehicles and lorries from different manufacturers for a wide cross section of industries. Back in the 1990s we became aware of the Health & Safety implications of new legislation, particularly with regard to safe lifting and secure loading, so when Gordons Ford approached us for a hire industry solution based on the Transit, we knew we could develop one.”

PPS also offers a range of bespoke beavertail plant bodies on vehicles ranging from 3500kg to 32 tonnes. The rear ramps extend hydraulically to facilitate safe loading and unloading of plant and machinery, and hire industry customers include A-Plant and HSS. The manufacturer also offers the Sidewalk, an integral walkway system designed to allow easy and safe access to a truck’s rear flatbed. It is operated via a switch in the cab, with the steps extending automatically within just three seconds. Side safety lights are also illuminated when the system is activated.
“The Transit Chassis Cab is one of the smaller vehicle conversions that we undertake, but it is no less important than any other,” said Steve Whitworth. “In fact, many hirers which have bought or heard about it have been interested to find out about the other products and systems that PPS can provide, and have gone on to add them to their fleets.”
