Murray Webster, MD, Webster Power Products, Wishaw “
One of the suppliers I’ll be touching base with at the Show is Higher Concept Software, whose Syrinx system we use. I’m interested in the latest developments like digital signature capture and the iPad application, since more and more hire business is being done on the move and away from the main office. In previous years, going to the Show has introduced us to many new products and suppliers. As a result we have added dehumidifiers from Dri-Eaz, which is a really great company to do business with, Geko Engineering’s innovative stump grinder attachment for mini excavators, and an adapted Transit vehicle from Gordons Ford. We also now get our equipment stickers from Atlantic Coast Studios, who I met at
last year’s exhibition. Another company on my list to see is Hobbyweld, whose range of bottled gases looks very cost-effective, as well as The Hire Supply Company, Obart and Seddons. The Show is also an invaluable opportunity to meet up with other hirers outside your local area and to compare experiences and discuss industry trends.

As well as seeing all the latest equipment, going to the Show enables us to get a feel for the whole industry and the mood of hirers across the country. Otherwise it is difficult for hirers in the more remote regions of the country, such as us down here in Cornwall, to compare our experiences and
performance against our peers beyond our immediate area.
Several of us will be attending the exhibition, as we did last year, and we usually arrange meetings with key suppliers in advance to find out in depth
about their latest products and initiatives, and helping us get the most out of our visit. In many respects, the Show is the only place where we actually have direct contact with manufacturers from year to year. It’s 232 miles from our depot to the Ricoh Arena, but the journey is well worth the effort.
