Absorbent polymer FloodSax
FloodSax are an alternative to sandbags, and they are clean, easy to store and deploy. They are filled with an adsorbent polymer, which when dry, lay flat and weigh only 200g. When they come into contact with water, they can swell up to 20kg in three minutes and stay in this shape, and continue to effective, for up to three months. They are biodegradable and are said to have a storage life of five years. Supplied in three pack sizes, the FloodSax Door, as in the Dehydro 1 kit, is for small openings and front door locations and measures 19cm x 90cm. For wider locations, FloodSax Regular measures 45cm x 35cm and FloodSax Super measures 45cm x 50cm.
“Nationally, what is the hire industry doing about flood recovery? The obvious products hirers offer are pumps and dehumidifiers, but there are other related products that are required at a time when every second counts. Of course, some national hirers do have a coordinated recovery plan. I believe that independent hirers in areas of high flood risk should have FloodSax ready and waiting. “When it rains, hirers want pumps immediately. At times in 2012, we were caught out with insufficient stock and some models were briefly unavailable. In response to increasing customer demand, Obart is stocking a wider range of pumps in large quantities and, as a result, is out- growing its warehouse. The company can expand on its existing site by adding another 10,000ft2
of warehouse space and this is likely to happen within the next three years.
