President ’s Message and Board Dear Residents,
It’s been another busy and productive year at the Downers Grove Park District. We have welcomed a new Executive Director into our leadership team, completed a major renovation at McCollum Park, continued tee renovations at the Golf Club, and are on track to serve over 200,000 participants through our programs, events and services.
As winter approaches and the snowflakes start to fly, consider taking your recreational pursuits outdoors with snowshoeing at Lyman Woods, ice skating at one of two outdoor ponds, cross country skiing at the Downers Grove Golf Club or sledding at one of our parks. Be sure to take time to invest in yourself and register for one of our Adult Cooking classes this winter. Warm up in the Lincoln Center Culinary Kitchen with several new programs including Winter Comfort Foods and Satisfying Soups.
Need help navigating through the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Let the Downers Grove Park District host your next holiday get together. Our unique spaces and places offer beautiful settings, historic buildings and affordable prices. When the kids are out of school, look to the Park District’s School’s Out Day of Play, Winter Break Camps and Spring Break Camps to keep kids active and entertained when parents need to work. And while you’re in our facilities, you can pick up the “gift of play” with a Park District gift card in any amount.
What does the New Year have in store for the Downers Grove Park District? More park improvements are scheduled for completion in spring including Memorial Park sports field lighting and Gilbert Park playground replacement. March 2013 marks the 10th anniversary of the Recreation & Fitness Center. Be on the lookout for special activities in celebration, including membership specials at 4500 Fitness and a free sampling of classes. As the grass turns green and flowers begin to bloom, the historic Golf Club reopens for the season and many of the Park District’s popular outdoor athletic leagues begin registration.
Take a moment to browse this Winter/Spring 2013 Recreation & Parks Guide today to see how you and your family can Play for Life.

The Downers Grove Park District was created in 1946 as a special unit of local government when a group of citizens envisioned the establishment of a park and recreation system to serve area residents. The Park District’s mission is to provide a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open space and natural areas that respond to the articulated needs and desires of residents.
