Museum Museum Outreach Programs


Let the Museum bring history to you! Learn about genealogy, preserving family heirlooms and the museum profession. Programs can be tailored to your group’s interest and age level and includes a hands-on component.


Scout & Youth Group Programs


The Museum offers a variety of hands-on, educational programs for scouts and other youth groups. Sharpen your thinking skills and explore your community’s past with an interactive group activity. Topics include maps of Downers Grove, historic architecture, cemetery walks and Victorian manners and games. Programs can be tailored for your group’s age level and specific interests upon request. Staff will help you match your organization with an excellent program. Programs may fulfill various scout badge requirements.


Exhibits


Main Street, U.S.A. January 12 - April 20, 2013


An exhibit highlighting the importance of Main Street in Downers Grove and how it evolved over the last 180 years.


Downers Grove Artists’ Guild: “Creating Colors” May - June 2013


In collaboration with the Downers Grove Artists’ Guild, the Museum will host a judged art exhibition.


Downers Grove History for Homeschoolers


Let the Museum supplement your child’s homeschool educational experience. Kids ages 8 - 12 years participate in age appropriate hands- on activities and projects, which will engage them in their community’s history. Choose from a wide range of topics or customize a program.


Registration required at Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Avenue, the Recreation & Fitness Center, 4500 Belmont Road or online at www.dgparks.org.


Museum Special Events Birthday Parties


Have a Historic Birthday at the Museum! Celebrate your birthday with historic games and fun before opening your presents and enjoying your cake in the Museum’s program room or outside in Wandschneider Park. Programs are customized for your child’s interests and age. Kids love the hands-on programs and activities on their big day. Call the Museum to book your birthday party today!


Each 1½-hour birthday party at the Museum includes:


• 45- to 60-minute historic game program led by Museum Staff • Use of Museum’s program room or outside area in Wandschneider Park • Use of dishes • Time for opening gifts and eating cake


Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Participants provide their own refreshments.


Fees: $90/party (max. 10 children) $5 each additional child (up to 10 total)


American Girl Doll Overnight It’s party time for girls and their favorite American Girl Doll. Children bring their doll for a program of crafts, stories and energetic activities. Then the dolls stay for an ‘overnight party’ filled with their own special fun. On Monday, children pick up their friends and receive a scrapbook of pictures showing all of the fun!

F NEW! Country in the Park


Visit Wandschneider Park for a little bit of the country in the park and view demonstrations on blacksmithing, butter making, sheep shearing, heirloom gardening and more. Visit with calves, sheep, chickens and celebrate the rural heritage of Downers Grove! No registration required.
