A space to foster body and soul, BABOR’S Beauty Spa The BABOR Beauty Spa in Teplice, in the Czech Republic, brings a 16th century bath house back to life

Silke Elsinghorst

Opening in August 2012, the latest BABOR Beauty Spa is located in Teplice, a spa town in the Czech Republic. Designed by architect Benedict Casademont, the inspiration for the spa was drawn from the original 16th century site, as he explains: “Te site was originally built as a public bath house. Tere is an existing well within the building which was used to supply the baths with healing water. Over the years, numerous modifications were undertaken, alienating it from the true intention of the location. It was our aim to bring back the former purpose of the building - a space to foster body and soul, dedicated to beauty in a harmonious environment.”

Preserving much of the existing structure, the former bath was covered Benedict Casademont

by glass flooring while traditional and modern were fused in the new materials used. Raw surfaces were combined with glossy materials and ancient architecture balanced with the simplicity of modernism. An earthy template, in shades of warm grey and browns, was used for the interiors. BABOR’s Director of Customer Relations and Concepts, Silke Elsinghorst, says: “It is BABOR’s commitment to give an unrivalled setting and bespoke service to each and every guest from arrival to departure. Tanks to the impressive, yet soothing, architecture guests are able leave all their stress behind as soon as they step into our beautiful new spa.”
