Situated on 17 hectares of vineyard and parkland, the secluded Domaine de Verchant Estate on the outskirts of Montpellier has been transformed thanks to a €10m (£7.8m) investment from owners Chantal and Pierre Mestre. Situated just a 10-minute drive away

from Montpellier International Airport, the 17th century country manor is now a 26-bedroom hotel attracting an affluent clientele. “We were the first to receive the five-star rating in Languedoc,” says Hotel Director Xavier Debaisieux, who used his experience managing international resorts in French Polynesia and Morocco to create the ultimate guest experience. The contemporary hotel rooms play host to a formidable array of gadgets and special touches including Bose speakers and Hermès products. In 2008, the Domaine de Verchant opened its boutique spa. It features three luxurious treatment rooms, plus a VIP suite offering two massage beds, a private steamroom, a double whirlpool and a

secluded garden area. An eclectic spa menu put together by Spa Manager Maud Hélène comprises a wide range of facial and body therapies, especially developed by regional laboratories including Biolux Medical and Vivaligne Laboratories – the latter, for example, created Kappa-Elastin, a patented anti-ageing molecule, which is used in facial treatments at the spa. Alongside the private treatment areas, the spa has an 11m x 3.5m counter-current and hydrotherapy circuit swimming pool, a hammam, a sauna and a whirlpool, an exfoliation room and a Vichy shower, plus a relaxation area overlooking the vineyard. There is also a gym, equipped by Technogym and Power Plate. Outside there’s a garden relaxation area dotted with circular rattan sun loungers, and a tennis court. In the summer, the hotel has a healthy 80 per cent occupancy rate, which dips to around 50 per cent in the winter. The capture rates are currently around 15 per cent, with an average guest age range of between 40- and 45-years-old, and the male/female ratio is currently 30:70.
