Preview The British Franchise Exhibition Franchise Success!

There are opportunities abound at the British Franchise Exhibition – here two recent success stories share their journey

Franchisee tackles redundancy with Agency Express business Paul Cray, Agency Express

Paul Cray, a printer from Basingstoke, had been researching franchising for seven years and, having tracked Agency Express closely, he visited The National Franchise Exhibition in Birmingham in 2011 to meet the team in person.

He comments: “I went to the exhibition in Birmingham where I saw hundreds of interesting business ideas. However, you’ve got to be realistic about your abilities, whether you can make any money from the franchise and look closely at what you get for your money. Of all the exhibitors I saw, Agency Express ticked these boxes.” Following the event, redundancies were made at Paul’s office, which enabled him to pursue his franchise option. He got back in

touch with Agency Express and the process of setting up his franchise began. Territories were mapped onto a site around the Basingstoke area, and, after an intensive week residential training at head office, it was time to launch. Paul concludes: “The support I get

from all of the staff at Agency Express is excellent – although it’s my business, I feel like I’m working for a small family company – and that’s a really nice feeling when you’re not used to going it alone.” Agency Express is the UK’s leading estate agents’ ‘For Sale’ board contractor, with 97 franchisees across England and Ireland managing over 4,000 board movements daily. n

Darren cleans up with new and unique franchise opportunity Specialised Conservatory Cleaning – a niche

Darren Pomfret, PVC Wizard Mechanical design engineer Darren

Pomfret was ready for a fresh challenge – something where he could take control of his working life and conjure up some excitement.

The decision to leave his job and change career, however, wasn’t an easy one to make. That was until he spotted a business idea that offered him a sparkling ‘window of opportunity’. Preston-born Darren explains: “Having spent 20 years behind a desk in an industry sector that was beginning to decline and with no real long-term prospects, I decided to look for something new where I had more control, flexibility and was able to work outside.” A keen DIY enthusiast with five house

renovations under his belt, Darren scoured a number of franchise possibilities to do with the home. He then met with John Feeney the founder of a company called

conservatory and PVC cleaning company – who subsequently trained Paul to be the company’s first franchisee. Today, the company is known as

PVC Wizard and is offering franchise opportunities across the country after launching its UK-wide roll out as a franchise network at the British Franchise Exhibition. Darren continues: “From the moment John first pitched the idea to me I was instantly hooked.” With more British householders choosing

to improve their existing homes, rather than move, Darren has increased business year-on-year.

He concludes: “Franchising has been a brilliant step in the right direction for me. I love the lifestyle, the reputation, the customer contact and I get the chance to make a good living.” n
