Kent, OH — Pittman® 8540 Series brush-commutated DC motors com- pare favorably with similarly sized conventional counterparts; they provide improved power density from bonded neodymium magnets and offer higher-performance power solutions in a compact and light- weight design. Typical applications for this family of motors range from data storage and medical equip- ment to semiconductor processing and automation machinery. The motors are available in
three lengths (2.114, 2.585, and 3.057-in. (53.7, 65.7, 77.6mm) weigh- ing from 4.66 to 7.55 oz. (132 o 214 gm) Depending on model, they can achieve continuous torque from 2.5 to 8.3 oz-in. (180 to 597 gm-cm.) with- out heat-sinking. Speed, voltage, current, and
torque characteristics can be varied and a selection of standard windings enables optimized performance tai-
Valves in US Malden, MA — Asahi/America, Inc. is now manufacturing Dymatrix™ MPV PTFE multiport manifold valves at its expanded Malden, Massachusetts manufacturing/dis- tribution facility. The expansion greatly reduces domestic lead times to two to four weeks. The custom PTFE valve bodies are machined on new CNC equipment dedicated to high purity plastic machining. The

lored to particular application needs. The brush system for the 8540 Series motors reportedly delivers
brush tracks that keep brushes aligned, constant-force springs that provide optimum brush pressure, and larger brushes offered in a choice of materials (including stan- dard graphite). The motors exhibit very low
magnetic cogging (or reluctance torque), the result of an optimized magnetic flux profile that promotes smooth operation and precise posi- tioning control in servo applica- tions.

The motors are equipped with pre-loaded ball bearings to accommo-
date high speeds, radial and axial shaft loads, and temperature extremes. A newly developed bearing support system and related construc-
tion techniques yield inherently more balanced 7-slot armatures and help minimize vibration and audible noise. Complementary products avail-
able include gearboxes, encoders, and brakes, and motors can be cus- tomized with various shaft configu- rations, leadwire assemblies, and transmission components (gears, pulleys, or sprockets). All Pittman 8540 Series motors incorporate an integral header allowing for use of a wider choice of lead connection con- figurations and easier installation. Contact: Ametek Technical &

valves are cleaned and assembled in the company’s recently expanded clean room. The Dymatrix MPV Manifold
offers a variety of capabilities in a compact valve. It is a custom config- ured manifold to fit each customer application and eliminate tubing, fit- tings and dead space. The valve design uses a special,
zero dead-leg diaphragm with full flush capabilities making it suitable for high purity applications. The PTFE body and diaphragm are resistant to highly aggressive chemi- cals and suitable for a wide range of industries including wafer produc- tion for semiconductor and photo- voltaic applications. The high cycle life of the valve ensures reliable per- formance in critical applications, and its compact design fits perfectly into tight equipment. Contact: Asahi/America, Inc., 35
