Google Partners with SolarCity to Fund Residential Solar Projects
San Mateo and Mountain View, CA — SolarCity and Google have created a new $280 million fund to finance residential solar projects. The Google-backed fund is the first col- laboration between the Internet giant and the nation’s leading solar
power and energy efficiency service provider, and represents Google’s largest investment to date in the clean energy sector. The fund is SolarCity’s largest
project financing fund and the largest residential solar fund created
in the U.S. SolarCity has now creat- ed 15 project funds with seven differ- ent partners to finance $1.28 billion in solar projects.

Sandia & TUV Rheinland to Help US Photovoltaics
Albuquerque, NM — Testing tech- niques from Sandia National Laboratories are helping accelerate the growth of the nation’s photo- voltaic solar power industry through a partnership with TUV Rheinland PTL, LLC, a private testing and cer- tification company in Tucson, Arizona. “The unique, multiplatform
test capabilities developed at Sandia Labs are providing a tremendous
value to our customers,” said Govindasamy Tamizhmani of TUV- PTL.
A variety of private companies
have turned to the Photovoltaics and Grid Integration Department at Sandia for testing and analysis, based on the department’s years of leadership in PV research. But as the U.S. PV industry continues its exponential growth, Sandia can’t keep up with those demands. “Transferring our technology to
a commercial test house allows for a much faster response time for get- ting PV into the field,” said Sandia researcher Jennifer Granata. “This partnership enables us to continue to support requests while maintain- ing our primary focus on research and new technologies.” In 2009, Sandia sought compet-

NIST and AIP Semiconductor Research Now Free & Online
Gaithersburg, MD — A wealth of information on recent advances in semiconductor research is now avail- able free of charge, following an agreement between the National Institute of Standards and Tech - nology (NIST) and the American Institute of Physics (AIP). The devel- opment should be welcome news to semiconductor chip manufacturers, universities and others in the com- puter industry who will find it less expensive to explore changes in crit- ical measurements for semiconduc- tor technology. Proceedings that have been
available through paid subscription or compendium volumes from the conference’s first year, are now avail- able online at no charge. The two institutions have made
the proceedings from the Inter - national Conference on Frontiers of Characterization and Metrology for Nanoelectronics (formerly Char - acter ization and Metrology for ULSI Technology) available for free down- load from both their Web sites. Until now, papers presented at the NIST- led conference series, which began in 1995, were only available through paid subscriptions. NIST’s David Seiler says the
proceedings’ availability should greatly help employees in the fast- paced semiconductor industry get up
