Last month Ingram Micro hired the London Eye and the London Film museum for its unilateral trade event, topped off with an awards ceremony hosted by TV’s Hugh Dennis. Andrew Wooden reports…

THE LONDON EYE may be more associated with the tourism industry than the IT sector, but last month it, together with the London Film Museum, played host to some of the biggest technology companies courtesy of the Ingram Micro Showcase. Key vendor’s such as Sony, Microsoft


and Toshiba occupied their own pods on the London landmark throughout the day, and gave resellers a chance to preview new products and discuss any issues with the firms face to face, 135 meters off the ground. As well as the private flights, a more traditional exhibition area was set up within the London Film Museum, where visitors could follow


up on the private flights, book deals, talk shop or get further information. HP’s Enterprise Servers and Storage division and Personal Systems Group occupied their own room, while Microsoft presented a range of hardware and software products, most notably Office 2011. Toshiba gained a lot of attention with its tablet device, while Sony was looking to push its new unified channel approach, and Lexmark unveiled its new print range. A panel session chaired by CRN’s Sara Yirrel and a range of keynotes from Microsoft, Symantec, Cisco, GfK and NBG amongst others, went on simultaneously. Issues discussed included cloud computing, the changing face of ‘Generation Y’, and the evolving laptop and tablet markets. Mat Sanderson, UK MD of Ingram
