Following the Ingram Micro Showcase in London, figures from across the trade gathered for a dinner and awards ceremony hosted by comedian Hugh Dennis at Altitude 360 in the Millbank Tower. The winners were: Adobe (Best Software Vendor), Lenovo (Best Hardware Vendor), Cisco (Best Networking Vendor and Best Specialist Vendor), Microsoft (Best Vendor), Aindale (Best SME Reseller), Softcat (Best Mid Market Reseller), Computacentre (Best Enterprise Reseller), Northgate (Best Specialist Reseller) and Systemax (Best Reseller).


BACK OF THE NET


IT service and solutions provider XMA has teamed up with HP to donate two laptops to an inner city school in Nottingham as part of the vendor’s PC4PE campaign. Berridge Junior School also received six top quality footballs as part of the scheme, which allows schools to collect points when they buy certain HP products. The points can the be exchanged for sports equipment.

SMALL FRY


Stephen Fry made a surprise appearance at the launch of Windows Phone 7at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. He was clearly so impressed with Microsoft’s new mobile operating system that he spent the afternoon tweeting about it from his iPhone.


ACTION MAN


SAS hero Chris Ryan visited the games department of HMV’s flagship Oxford Circus store to meet fans and sign copies of EA’s new Medal Of Honoron XBox 360 and PS3, as well as copies of his book of the same title.


Some will call me traitor, but I was pleased to stand on stage and welcome Windows Mobile 7 into the world. Used it for a week. Like it.
