Genie Birch started out in real estate as a single mom who moved back to the U.S. from Mexico in need of a job. Eighteen years later, she is the current president of the Chicago Association of REALTORS, and has also been a president of NAHREP’s Chicago Chapter and the Women’s International Zionist Organization’s local chapter in Mexico. Currently, she is on the board of directors for CAR, IAR, NAR and NAHREP. “I became involved in volunteer leadership after only a few years on the job,” says Birch. “It became an incredible way for me to get involved in our industry. I knew that if I wanted to improve the professionalism of our industry, volunteering was the place to start.” Fascinated by the relationships she has formed, Birch enjoys working on a daily basis with colleagues, fellow volunteers, clients and service partners. In the end, it is her family that comes first. “There is nothing more dear to me than spending time with my husband, Alan Friedman, our three children and four grandchildren. The joy one receives from family makes almost everything else seem okay.”
