AZUR SPACE solar cells win Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Award

2010-04-07

German based AZUR SPACE is acknowledged with the “2009 World Solar Power Industry Growth Leadership Award.”

AZUR SPACE is the sole manufacturer of GaAs solar cells in Europe and one of only three GaAs based cell providers worldwide. It uses MOVPE growth technology to produce GaInP and GaAs on germanium substrates to produce very high (greater than 30%) efficiency solar cells used in space and custom-designed PV systems for terrestrial applications. The company also uses varying grades of Czochralski-grown materials in the production of its silicon based solar cells employed in deep space missions.

The company which claims to produce the best solar cells for satellite applications has been driven to improve the technology and mass production capability of solar panels whilst reducing the manufacturing costs in order to promote this renewable energy source. With 38% efficient solar cells for terrestrial concentrator applications reported, the first aim is to develop PV cells of 40% efficiency in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards use industry analysts to compare market participants’ merits and concentrates on companies demonstrating outstanding

leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development in a variety of sectors.

AZUR SPACE is now planning to enter the healthcare market and develop its GaAs technology for medical applications such as X-ray detectors and is optimistic about a breakthrough innovation.

RF Integration collaborate with Agilent in Advanced Radio Frequency IC (RFIC) development

2010-04-06

Agilent Technologies today announce that their GoldenGate software has been selected by RF integration to enhance their RFICs

RF Integration provides custom solutions to the defence, industrial and consumer markets and focuses on improving RF performance, power consumption, cost and size. Working with SiGe, CMOS, GaAs or GaN processes in advanced process nodes below 65nm they have opted to use the simulation accuracy, capacity and performance benefits offered by GoldenGate in their customized RF Systems-on-a-Chip.

Benchmarking tests have shown a 50% decrease on previous simulation times of full and transmitter chains.

U.S. firm Agilent Technologies offers technical solutions to the compound semiconductor, electronics and chemical analysis sectors and serves customers in over 110 countries. GoldenGate is a subsidiary of Agilent’s RFIC simulation, analysis and verification products that also includes Momentum for 3-D planar electromagnetic simulation and Ptolemy Wireless Test Benches for system level. The GoldenGate suite links the RF system, subsystem, and component-level design and analysis in a unique RFIC design flow.

“RF Integration’s full transmitter and receiver chains simulation results tell a compelling story.
