Third Party Copy
⎯ Removes the media server from the data path
⎯ Disk to Router to Tape
o This is different altogether. With disk to disk we store information
on disk and copy data to disk. With Disk to Disk to Tape we store
it on the disk, we move data to disk, then we move it to tape
o With Disk to Router to Tape we don’t store the information on the
router. We go through the router so this is like one of those
abbreviations/acronyms that is actually incorrect. So disk to router
to tape is not where we store the information. It takes the media
server out of the data flow. So disk to router to tape is actually
third party copy. It’s like disk to tape but instead of using a media
server we use a storage router
o (so Disk to Router to Tape is normally a distraction) this is not one
of our backup strategies – it is the data path.
