Volume Allocation and Security
Controlling access to storage volumes is critical:
Two servers must not attempt to write to the same
volume at the same time
Windows NT servers must not gain access to a volume
with a UNIX file system and vice versa
Enforces data security
Techniques:
Zoning
LUN masking
LUN mapping/ persistent binding
Volume allocation is the most basic aspect of data security:
Prevents the wrong server from accessing the wrong volumes
Secures data from unauthorized use
There are four basic techniques used to control volume access on an FC SAN:
Zoning
LUN mapping (also known a persistent binding)
LUN masking
Port binding
