One of the key differentiators between DAS, SAN and NAS is that NAS
transfers ‘files’ across the LAN and does not operate in Block I/O mode.
Attaching a NAS Appliance to the LAN may impact existing operations
currently utilising the LAN and may cause LAN congestion. Sometimes the
NAS is implemented on its own network to avoid this occurring.
