Web Applications Development
Full-time or part-time
The importance, power and functionality of web-
based applications continue to grow apace as do
the number of technologies and techniques to
deliver these applications.
On this practical course you will specialise in
the design and development of internet-based
systems, focussing on the key underpinning
technologies. You will examine the methods,
models, tools and techniques required to
build and host secure web applications, with
sophisticated interfaces, using the very latest
interactive technologies.
Through a range of modules you will develop
your skills in web programming languages and
environments, which enable the development of
both small scale and enterprise level web based
applications. You will gain hands on experience
of the most popular web technologies enabling
you to fully analyse any given task and select an
appropriate technology for implementation. You
will investigate in-depth issues-related design
and evaluation of web sites and explore the
application of standards, frameworks and design
patterns to aid implementation of your designs.
As you progress, the dissertation/final project
will provide an opportunity for you to engage in
research and advanced scholarship in a subject
area that is appropriate to your course but of
your own choosing.
To enhance employment opportunities, course
content is kept relevant to the needs of the
sector. We maintain strong links with the web
industry and staff members are accredited to
teach courses in Zend(PHP), Adobe CS3 and
Linux Redhat, which you can also study.
Entry requirements
In addition to the University entry requirements
you will require a degree in computing,
communication systems or similar.
