Car Test Isuzu

Japan’s leading vehicle manufacturer Isuzu is next up in our December edition of Car Test. This time we spotlight the state-of-the-art D-Max series, with reviews of the DL40 Double Cab Auto and the Utility Double Cab Manual, two standout utility vehicles that fly the flag for Japanese quality and reliability. Taking both down rugged Somerset lanes proved to be a pleasure!

D-Max DL40 Double Cab Auto “Isuzu focus on making their pick-ups tough, strong and built to go the distance.” It’s a simple assertion but one that does exactly what it says on the tin and after road testing this off-roader for just over a week, we can confirm its durability and resilience are unmatched. Tried and tested, with the Car Test seal of approval.

It’s a work vehicle through and through, so if you need to tow a heavy load, few will do it better. Featuring rear differential lock, 4WD capabilities, trailer sway control, underbody protection as well as a reinforced chassis as standard, there’s no doubt such technology allows for the transport of considerable weight across extended distances. Whilst we’re not farmers ourselves, we imagine it’d really come into its own in an agricultural setting. Whether that be towing hay bales or any number of demanding arable uses.

When it comes to trim level, the DL40 is the second to highest. It features the regular accompaniments of the Utility, all the heightened upgrades of the DL20 as well as its own set of bespoke characteristics. From LED

front fog lights to front / rear parking sensors and a reversing camera, all of these features accentuate the vehicle’s outdoor, workhorse potential.

Retail lands at just under £30,429, which feels like a more than fair figure for a pick-up truck of this stature. Isuzu specialise in commercial vehicles, so you can be sure you’re securing one of the market’s very best.

D-Max Utility Double Cab Manual The Utility is the entry level version of the D-Max. And with Isuzu being Isuzu, that means you still get plenty of bang for your buck.

The trim level may be the most standard version but there are more than enough features to keep you driving in comfort. Automatic headlights with high beam assist, automatic windscreen wipers, speed-sensitive power steering, DAB radio and a stop & start system mean you can plough through rain and wind in comfort.

We’d like to draw particular attention to the safety features, all of which come fitted to every D-Max model. Autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed limiter and lane departure warning offer state of the art protection. Considering Isuzu prides itself on manufacturing the best in class pickups, these are the exact considerations that make their vehicles well-suited to both urban roads and off-road alike.

Overall, it’s hard to find fault in either model. Isuzu know their identity better than anyone. No frills, no fluff. Just solid, purpose-built motors that tackle the great outdoors with gusto, whilst being versatile enough to take to city streets with confidence as well.

Until next time Isuzu! For more details please visit www. isuzu.co.uk. 70 COMMERCIAL PROPERTY MONTHLY 2022
