A bright future beckons for Hartlepool
These are exciting times for Hartlepool as signifi cant place-based regeneration accelerates.
The port town has much to be optimistic about, with a Town Investment Plan, a Town Centre Masterplan, the £25 million Hartlepool Town Deal and the proposed Mayoral Development Corporation and Hartlepool Investment Zone.
“Our vision is for a well-connected and vibrant waterfront town, whilst signifi cantly increasing the skills offer for young people,” says Councillor Shane Moore, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council.
A key challenge is to integrate the different parts of Hartlepool town centre to give it a more distinct identity.

Wider investment is occurring too.
The Council recently let former offi ces in Church Street for a leisure use, and it is also seeking a tenant for a newly-refurbished former takeaway nearby. The Grand Hotel in the town centre has new owners, and Vision Retail Park at Hartlepool Marina is being redeveloped by the National Museum of the Royal Navy, a project forming part of a £100m+ capital programme led by the Council.
Then there is the state-of-the-art Northern Film and TV Studios, managed by the Northern School of Art, and the anticipated arrival of Levelling Up funding which is earmarked for the development of a “Production Village” offering a range of back offi ce services to the town’s fl edgling screen industries sector.
Alongside these exciting developments, Hartlepool continues to offer a rich mix of commercial locations to suit every business type.

The Town Deal is the catalyst for change, with work about to start on fi ve large-scale projects.
The re-imagining of Middleton Grange Shopping Centre will regenerate a Grade II listed former department store to create a mixed use heart for the town centre, the derelict former Wesley Chapel, also Grade II listed, is to be converted into a 36-bedroom boutique hotel in partnership with private sector owners, and new cycling and walking routes will better connect The Waterfront – site of the Council’s new multi-million pound leisure centre Highlight - and the Marina with the town centre and Seaton Carew.
Health and Social Care and Civil Engineering Skills Academies are being created by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and Seymour Civil Engineering respectively in partnership with

These include The BIS, an award-winning centre for creative business start-ups; Queens Meadow Business Park, which has a focus on businesses in the advanced manufacturing and engineering, chemicals and renewable energy sectors; Hartlepool Marina, a business and leisure area that is home to a range of premier offi ce accommodation and retail and leisure units of varying size; and Hartlepool Port Estates, part of the town’s operating port and ideal for renewable energy or advanced engineering companies.
