The Hub at DIRFT
of this new terminal will bring the number of freight containers passing through to DIRFT on a daily basis to about 200,000 and help to create about 3,000 more jobs; further strengthening DIRFT’s position as one of Northamptonshire’s largest employers.
Importantly for the region, DIRFT is home to Prologis UK’s flagship training course, which is run from The Hub and is known as the Prologis Warehouse and Logistics Training Programme (PWLTP). The programme aims to provide skills development opportunities for young, unemployed, and disadvantaged people in the wider South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP). The training covers everything from CV writing and employability training to practical skills in areas such as forklift and machine operating courses. The long-term aim of the PWLTP is to create a pipeline of talent for local employers.
Delivering an impressive £5 million in social value through job creation and education since 2021, The Hub is Europe’s first purpose-built transport and logistics training site. Prologis UK is aiming to build on the success of
its PWLTP by rolling it out across the country, to help meet the demands of the sector in the future.
Many consumers are unaware of the critical role that logistics companies and the rail freight industry play in transporting everyday products and supporting the fulfilment of our e-commerce requirements. However, growing public interest in sustainability is helping to draw attention to DIRFT and the activities of the companies that operate there.
Looking to the future, Prologis UK is committed to continuing to build on DIRFT’s success and supporting the development of a more sustainable future for the UK’s thriving logistics sector.
