North East Businesses at UKSE Centres Look to the Future

Innovation Centre 2022

Despite the challenges of recent times, demand from new and growing businesses for office and unit space at UKSE’s two flagship Innovation Centres on Teesside has continued to grow.

Around 100 companies involved in sectors from finance, engineering and healthcare to design, freight and software now call the Innovation Centres at Hartlepool and Redcar home. And UKSE, the Tata Steel business-support subsidiary, continues to invest substantially in improving facilities for its tenants.

Purpose built in the early 2000s, both Centres soon had multi-million pound extensions added. Recently they have benefitted from six-figure investments to create some smaller units, improved wireless connectivity and hot-desking. UKSE has now invested more than £12m into providing workspace in the Northern region in addition to the £22m it has invested in companies to help them boost growth and create jobs.

Recent arrivals at the Hartlepool Innovation Centre include Vivid Lifts, Bryal

Limited and Trigger Media. At Redcar, new tenants include Clay Drilling, specialists in geotechnical investigations, Stonehouse Bookkeeping Services, Intek Electrical Engineering, NPC Training and National Safety Passport.

Growing demand led to the appointment of Workspace Manager Joan Cook who manages both Centres and supports tenants on a daily basis.

UKSE Regional Manager Sarah Thorpe said: “Cost-effective rents and easy-in easy-out terms are very important to growing businesses but we know tenants also value the facilities especially the 24/7 access, free parking, high speed communications, a serviced reception area, meeting rooms and an on-site gym.

“Our aim is to provide a high quality building and a welcome for businesses, their staff and visitors. Everyone knows businesses have had a difficult time in recent years but it has been heartening to watch our tenants work through the challenges. And our UKSE team has worked hard to keep the Centres running smoothly.”
