Prologis RFI DIRFT: Putting Northamptonshire on the map

As one of the four main pillars of transport, rail
freight is playing
an increasingly important role in supporting UK and global supply chains, and it’s set to become a crucial component in the push to net zero emissions by 2050.
The environmental credentials of rail
freight speak for themselves; with one freight train capable of transporting the same amount of goods as about 76 HGVs. Rail freight also contributes almost 80 per cent fewer carbon dioxide emissions per tonne. Located in Northampton, Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, known to the UK logistics industry as DIRFT, is the UK’s largest rail freight terminal. Owned by one of the world’s leading owners and developers of logistics real estate, Prologis, DIRFT is classed as nationally significant infrastructure, and represents the company’s largest asset in the UK.
Located in the heart of the logistics “golden triangle”, Prologis RFI DIRFT provides strategic access to other parts of the UK. Linking to the M1, M6 and A14, the site features more than 8.75 million sq. ft. of warehousing space and is home to the likes of Tesco, Sainsburys and Royal Mail – cementing it (and Northamptonshire) as the industry’s go-to spot for logistics real estate in the UK.
As the rail freight industry continues to grow, so does DIRFT, with the recent announcement of two new logistics units, which are due to complete in September 2023. The addition of DC327 and DC628, which together provide nearly 1 million sq. ft. of prime logistics space, underlines Prologis UK’s commitment to the site’s ongoing expansion. With impressive sustainability specs behind them (BREEAM “Excellent”, EPC A rated, and solar PV array installation), these two units will help Prologis’ customers achieve their own sustainability goals.
