The new Pharmacy Service Centre will handle prescriptions and dispatch medicines for the firm’s 150 community pharmacies across England. Prescriptions will be assembled for individual patients, then either delivered to local pharmacies for collection the next day, or direct to patients’ homes.
The new hub is expected to take 9 months to build and due to open in April next year. It will house up to 100 staff, with the potential to grow into a 24-hour operation in future.

South Derbyshire - A Favoured Location
South Derbyshire has long been a favoured location for international manufacturing investment – Swiss multinational Nestlé opened their factory at Hatton in 1901. The latest is Germany’s MEG Group, which is constructing its first UK production facility at Dove Valley Park at Foston. The project is hailed as the largest single investment in South Derbyshire since the Toyota car plant in the early 1990s.
The investment will create a 50,000 sqm state-of- the-art beverage plant, with four production lines producing mineral water and soft drinks. The new water processing, bottling and distribution site will serve supermarket giant Lidl with various beverages for the British and Irish markets.
Paul Shanley from Clowes Developments,
the owners of Dove Valley Park, commented, “We have established an excellent working relationship with the MEG Group team, based in Germany, and more locally with South Derbyshire District Council, who have been instrumental in enabling this major inward investment for the region and indeed the UK.”
Frank McCardle, Chief Executive of South Derbyshire District Council stated, “We have worked closely with the MEG team since their original enquiry, in bringing this new state-of-the- art production facility to South Derbyshire, on Dove Valley Park. This major inward investment has
been 30 secured through a dedicated
approach, supported by the many benefits of locating in our District. Job creation is always welcome along with energy efficient technology that this plant will incorporate.”
Almost 20% of jobs in South Derbyshire are in manufacturing – more than double the national average. Food & drink production and transport equipment manufacturing are particularly important, with investors including Avara Foods, Dellner, Futaba, JCB and Trelleborg.
The manufacturing sector benefits from the area’s key strengths – a rapidly growing population, an existing skills and supplier base, and a central location
in the national transport network.
Further employment land has been allocated in a number of locations to enable South Derbyshire’s manufacturing sector to continue to flourish.

St. Modwen Continues Midlands Expansion
Alfreton distribution centre located on major North - South distribution corridor.
St. Modwen, one of the UK’s leading logistics developers and managers, has continued its expansion in the Midlands with the acquisition of a 56,760 sq ft cold storage distribution facility in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
The modern, two-chamber cold storage
distribution facility is located on the Clover Nook Industrial Estate in Alfreton, adjacent to the A38 and Junction 28 of the M1 motorway and on the major North-South distribution corridor.
The site spans 5.31 acres with low site coverage of 25% and currently provides 161 car parking spaces and a further 30 dedicated HGV bays with the capacity to accommodate the installation of EV charging points.
Alfreton, by virtue of its central location equidistant from Nottingham and Derby, has become one of the UK’s major submarkets for distribution and logistics companies. There is strong local demand for high-quality mid box distribution centres with strong transport connectivity, seeing high levels of take-up among occupiers seeking urban depots to serve surrounding towns and cities. Supply of suitable mid box schemes within the Midlands is limited, with low levels of available stock and significant competition between occupiers for best-in-class units.

Speaking about the start on site Gareth Williams, Development Director at St Francis Group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have formally marked the start of works onsite and to be building this fantastic new facility for fast-growing customer Peak Pharmacy with the team onsite already having made significant progress.
We look forward to working with the team at Peak Pharmacy and delivering a first-class facility next year.”
