crannies.” Where they are now, “it’s a large open plan studio and two suites upstairs.”

There’s a different quality to each of the three hubs – around Shoreditch, Farringdon and Cambridge Heath. With Farringdon neighbouring Covent Garden, it’s that much closer to the West End. “It’s an important distinction,” says Johnny Whitehead at Company3. “Where we are is walking distance from the old stomping ground.” 15-minutes to Soho, enough time to make a phone call.

Shoreditch has the three Splice buildings as well as Black Kite, ELMNTL, Untold Studios, Post Republic. Once the location for Jack the Ripper’s murders, the area – which includes a bit of Tower Hamlets - has felt the hand of gentrification and has a dose of urban cool.

A little further North – between Old Street and King’s Cross - is Jam VFX. Moving from Soho in the latest wave of moves last year. Jam co-founders Jordan Andreopoulos and Mark Robinson found premises where they were able to buy the freehold. “Our thought process was, let’s not rent somewhere, let’s buy somewhere, because there’s no point in doing a building up again only to have to rip everything out when we leave,” says Andreopoulos. In Soho, says Robinson, “there were more nooks and

Although remote working has reduced the time that clients spend in the facility, it’s nice to know when they’re round the corner. Jam has recently broken into long form, working on The End of the F***ng World, which happens to be made by Clerkenwell Pictures. Other projects include Life After Life for House Productions, also in Clerkenwell and Worzel Gummidge from Leopard Pictures, based in Angel.

The third media hub is around Cambridge Heath and Bethnal Green, where there’s another cluster of post houses, including Fonic, Hijack and Bleat.

”We’ve long suspected that this was going to be the move that people would be doing. There’s just so much happening around here.”

MANAGING DIRECTOR HIJACK

RICH SIMPSON

Hijack co-founders already lived out East and were working in Brick Lane, looking to expand when they found their location by Broadway Market. It’s an old glass factory, painted blue on the outside, bright on the inside, with a wall of windows. ”We’ve long suspected that this was going to be the move that people would be

doing,” says managing director Rich Simpson. He observes that quite a bit of the talent base has moved from Shepherd’s Bush to Dalston. “There are so many studio spaces where you see little production companies popping up, and some doing both production and post, there’s just so much happening around here.”

Hijack is a stone’s throw from the Regent’s Canal, the other side from Bleat which launched last year. Bleat’s fit-out includes
