Interlink signs SuperFlume contract for Qatar
I
n an exciting development, water ride specialist Interlink has signed a contract with Qetaifan Projects to design, manufacture and install a SuperFlume ride for its new waterpark project on Qetaifan Island North in Qatar.
The new Immersive SuperFlume will be the first ride of its kind to be installed in Qatar and it will have several unique and exciting features. Once aboard 20-seater themed boats, riders will leave the station and begin their voyage following the history and techniques of oil exploration in the region over the last 100 years. The journey takes them through various lifts and drops as the story unfolds in the different themed zones. The experience culminates with the boat entering the focal point of the ride – the cracking tower, where it slowly rotates as it rises up a vertical lift with various special effects, emerging into the daylight and plunging straight down a 16m high chute, ending in a spectacular grand splash before heading back towards the station. Interlink’s commercial director John Davies commented: “We are delighted to be involved with such a prestigious project like Qetaifan Island North’s Waterpark. This unique, one of a kind SuperFlume ride is set to become something really spectacular and will surely prove to be a truly exciting family ride for visitors to the waterpark”. Mississippi Aquarium launches SeaTREK underwater experience
Mississippi Aquarium, Gulfport, Mississippi, has launched its highly anticipated SeaTREK experience. From Sub Sea Systems, SeaTREK is a helmet diving experience that allows guests to become one with the Aquarium’s main Oceans Habitat while in a near zero-gravity diving system. SeaTREK is open for guests ages 10 and up and is available to non-swimmers. Participants will get up close and personal with fish, sharks, rays and much more.
“We are excited to launch the SeaTREK experience,” said Jeff Gibula, Mississippi Aquarium director of facility operations. “This experience allows guests the unique opportunity to experience marine life up close, in our main habitat.” The SeaTREK experience at Mississippi Aquarium is approximately 20 minutes underwater. SeaTREK is the world’s largest guided helmet diving programme, with locations on five continents in 27 countries. Using specialised SeaTREK diving helmets, multi-generations of participants can walk underwater on a fully guided tour. Participants do not need to know how to swim, hair and face remain dry, and guests can even wear prescription glasses or contact lenses.

It will be the first entertainment and tourist island in Qatar, making it a distinctive waterfront for the city. The whole island spans approximately 1.3 million square metres and the projects area on the island extends to approximately 830 thousand square metres.
Big WaveZ new from Zamperla
New from Zamperla is the Big WaveZ, a combination of a classic shoot-the-chutes and a drop tower, with an interactive video game section. The Big WaveZ takes up to 20 passengers 15 meteres (49 feet) high, on top of the tower, where an engaging game experience begins during which riders take full control of their destiny depending on their interactions and game dynamics thanks to Z+ cameras and sensors. At the end of the journey riders must prepare for a wide splash that is variable depending on the exit of the optional game section. Riders’ speed at the splash-down is 25 kph (16 mph) The ride
experience is unpredictable and changes every time. The ride cycle takes 130
seconds, providing an hourly capacity of 550. The ride occupies an area of 46 by 15.5 metres (151 by 51 feet).
