Culture meets creativity KCC’s approach to designing the park aimed to combine the latest technology in rides and attractions with stories and imagery from Nanjing’s history of folk culture and legends. As one of the four ancient cities in China, Nanjing has a history of more than 2000 years and was the capital city of six ancient dynasties. “Our creative team felt like we were

back at school, studying Nanjing’s history and culture. However, the more we learned the better we could link the stories, legends and cultural elements with the rides to create a completely new and fun experience,” comments a KCC representative. “Upon entering [the park] the visitor is immediately blown

away by a never seen before combination of two thrill rides within a structure referencing a weaving machine - Nanjing has a great textile history,” reveals CEO Yannick Maes. Also among the theme park’s 22 attractions are several

large customised rides created by Italian manufacturer Zamperla: a Sky Tower, a Mega Disk’O Coaster, a Moto Coaster and a Crazy Bus. A Zamperla representative comments: “In this case the customer requested that we build part of China’s history and tradition into the rides. This resulted in some spectacular theming, such as the tower ride being located inside a perfect Chinese-style skyscraper, while the Moto Coaster is completely fenced by a majestic ship skeleton. Additionally, the Crazy Bus has been designed in the style of a Chinese chariot.”

The ‘Nanjing Porcelain Pagoda’ houses a thrilling drop tower

that launches guests into the air at a great speed - channeling crazy scientist Wan Hu, who according to Chinese legend launched himself into space by attaching fireworks to his chair. The Zamperla Moto Coaster, meanwhile, is based on one of the ships of Zheng He, Chinese explorer and protector of Nanjing. Wanda Group’s management have described the parks as

one of the best entertainment designs they have even seen become reality. Further KCC Entertainment Design projects include seven more ‘entertainment worlds’ due to open their doors this year - two in China and five in the Middle East. In addition to Wanda’s new indoor theme park, Nanjing is

set to see three theme parks by American amusement park giant Six Flags open by 2021, reinforcing its new position as a family entertainment hub.
