Niagara Falls elevated go-kart raceway now open

combines kart racing with the experience of a roller coaster ride; the course is spread out over four acres with over 2000 linear feet of concrete racing surface running through a four-story helical spiral followed by a two tiered coaster style ramp that runs into another spiral. Though riders may feel like they are flying over a cliff at certain points during the ride, extensive safety features were built into the Speedway attraction.

N

iagara Speedway, Canada’s first elevated go-kart race course, is now open in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Towering over 42 feet high, the Niagara Speedway is the latest addition to Clifton Hill’s Street of Fun. The Speedway

“It’s like go-karts on steroids,” promises

Harry Oakes, President of HOCO Limited. “You drive on a road course for a portion of the race and then spiral up ... to about 40 feet, and then come down a long hill ... kind of like the way a wooden coaster would be.” The track development was led by a

Canadian and American consortium including: HOCO Limited, J&J Amusements of Salem OR, architects: Brent Butler and Roberto Narduzzo, and structural design by VanBoxmeer, Stranges & Antonio of London, Ontario.

Whey Eye, man!

A world-record breaking observation wheel is in the works for Newcastle as part of a project that would see more than £100m invested in the city and up to 550 jobs created. Dubbed ‘The Whey Eye’, a phonetic rendition of the Geordie phrase, the wheel will stand five metres taller than the London Eye. A 10,000 square-metre LED digital screen will serve as the wheel’s centre

piece, a record breaking installation that will be used to communicate information about local culture and events as well as social media content and advertising. Newcastle and England football legend, Alan Shearer, and prominent North

East businessman and co-founder of accountancy software company The Sage Group, Graham Wylie have already endorsed the project. The plans were announced by the World Wheel Company which has built

and operated giant observation wheels and family entertainment centres around the world. These include 120 metre and 90 metre wheels in Suzhou, China, and Tbilisi, Georgia, respectively, and more than 20 family entertainment centres across the globe.
