Company insight

he mission at CBDepot is to provide legal, high-quality cannabinoid ingredients and cannabinoid-enriched products for the industrial and consumer markets. This is driven by the company’s belief that cannabinoid-based products can contribute not only to medical care in a broad and complex therapeutic range, but also to improve wellbeing in smaller doses through the consumer market. Science is critical to the business and the CBDepot research team is constantly probing the edges of cannabidiol. In addition to CBD, the team conducts research and development in isolation and synthesis of other cannabinoids – such as CBG, CBN, CBC – which they predict will generate sizeable market interest in the near future. The company’s science is anchored in strategic affiliation with the Prague Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals (ICPF) at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Activities also extend to the development of extraction and purification technology, as well as the scientific analysis critical to the development of CBDepot product lines.

Collaborative change

CBDepot has been a leading participant in the development of a fair and responsible regulatory environment for CBD through its work with the European Union, the World Health Organisation (WHO). The company’s leadership working with groups from the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) has provided a deep knowledge of the wider socio-economic aspects of the industry.

Boris Banas, the founder of CBDepot has been active in the broader research on hemp under Slovak government licenses for a long time, and ultimately helped to push the Slovak government to adopt EU hemp- related farming rules in 2008. Through its

CBDepot is a pioneer in the production of high-quality cannabinoid ingredients, and a world- leading researcher into this revolutionary compound. The company, founded in 2014, has helped establish legal and quality standards for cannabinoid ingredients, as well as the formulation of cannabinoid derivatives that have a fast-growing presence in sectors including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other health products.

CBDepot offers bulk cannabinoid ingredients, which are made exclusively from hemp varieties and are all EU-certified.

affiliation with Hemp Seed Oil Europe, a widely recognised European player, the company has distributed Canadian hemp seed ingredients for the food, feed and cosmetics markets in the EU on a large scale since 2009. That business has given CBDepot a profound appreciation for food safety legislation, and for regulations governing various food supplement and health claims.

Unlocking potential

As the regulatory framework for hemp, CBD extracts and tinctures in foods continues to unfold, CBDepot has been a leader in working to establish progressive rules for this important sector. It has lent its expertise in the ongoing efforts to establish EU-wide regulations on allowable levels of THC in foods. The company believes that there is no room for health or medicinal claims for CBD in free access end user products, and works diligently with governmental agencies to develop rules

for marketing on the full range of CBD- based consumer products. CBDepot’s approach has always been to lead by example. Be it the first ever submitted novel food application for the use of isolated CBD in food back in 2016, or the introduction of the world’s first isolated Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) CBD as an API in 2017. The company’s initial mission was supplying “legal and quality CBD”, at a time when sourcing ethical and quality isolated CBD was a challenge. CBDepot’s extensive scientific knowledge is based on close links with the Czech Academy of Sciences.

In 2017, the company’s emphasis evolved to “legal natural cannabinoids” because the legality of the extraction of cannabis was an issue. In January 2017, it had added CBG isolate and various remedied extracts and distillates with concentrations of non- psychoactive cannabinoids, ranging from 50 to 80%, and non-detectable THC.
