Event F&B experts gather in Frankfurt

Name: Fi Europe Location: Frankfurt, Germany and Online Date: 30 November - 2 December (from 22 November for online) Web: www.figlobal.com/fieurope/en/home.html Report: Preview

T

he leading ingredients show Fi Europe will be held in Frankfurt this November as industry conferences are back with bang, following a year and a half of pandemic-induced cancellations. With over half of respondents set to attend in person, and others free to connect online, the event – which aims to combine food and health ingredients into a rounded package – is banking on a new format to attract 23,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibitors.

Food Ingredients Global (FIG) is a complex, wide reaching organisation with a simple mission. Established in the Netherlands in 1986, it has aimed to bring the F&B industry together through live events and digital platforms. As stated on its website, FIG’s ultimate goal ‘is to create meaningful connections and support innovation in the F&B ingredients industry’. Through its portfolio of live events, extensive data, digital solutions and high-level conferences, the organisation is now established throughout the world and provides regional and global platforms for all stakeholders in the food ingredients industry. This effort has only been bolstered by a collaboration with Informa Markets, also a renowned specialist in large- scale exhibitions, virtual events, online marketplaces, specialist content and data services. For a sector that is built on emotional bonds and education – whether that be via savvy entrepreneurial ideas or a granular understanding of the latest scientific research – the chance to attend another tightly organised Fi Europe event will be much anticipated after a series of cancellations. After all, in a fast-evolving industry, the need for trade shows, both for inspiration and the opportunity to network, is enormous.

Home and away To ensure that it caters to in-person attendees – so far over half are set to attend the event in Frankfurt – and to an online audience, the Fi team have devised a hybrid strategy to satiate renewed demand. The in-person event will open in Frankfurt from 30 November to 2 December, while an accompanying online event, starting 22 November, will cater to those who are unable to visit due to travel restrictions or time constraints. All attendees will therefore benefit from the new online product presentations, ingredients search functions as well as chat and video meeting features.

To ensure that attendees can enjoy business and networking opportunities in optimal conditions, the ten-point compliance plan of the “All Secure Health & Safety Standard”, developed by Informa Markets, will be in place, imposing regulations on cleaning and hygiene, and physical distancing, along with protection and detection measures. “It’s the details that make the difference, and we have paid attention to details when it comes to added safety for everyone involved,” explains brand director Julien Bonvallet. “We are already in contact with exhibitors about replacing the distribution of brochures with a QR code system that will help reduce physical contact. And, of course, we’re adapting our hall layout with wider alleys so that two-way traffic is feasible, while maintaining distancing regulations. Furthermore, as this is an F&B show, a secure way of sampling and tasting will be guaranteed.”

While the primary reason for opting for this dual structure is to ensure that those regulars who cannot attend in person don’t miss out on crucial discussions and the opportunity to network, this approach also favours new recruits. The 2020 online edition of Fi Europe and Fi Global digital events in recent months proves that these formats were not only well-received, but also tapped into completely new attendee potential: between 40 and 60% of participants attended for the first time. The global reach also increased, thus broadening brand awareness and business opportunities for exhibiting companies.
