NEWS ROUND-UP Attention turns to duty free in Larnaca Airport upgrades

phases, with the end result being a modern, refreshed commercial zone at the single terminal that optimises passenger flows while enticing travellers to shop and dine. Phase one, which is expected to run until

October, has already resulted in the re- location and upgrade of Burger King and Costa Coffee outlets, with attention now turning to the duty free zones with an initial focus on perfumes & cosmetics. Currently,

the CTC-ARI-operated

Hermes Airports is in the midst of renovating the duty free zones at Larnaca (Larnaka) International Airport as part of an 18-month programme. The airport operator is investing more

than €15m/$17m to redesign the shopping and food & beverage areas at Larnaca and Paphos International Airports (Pafos), which it also manages. In March, Hermes Airports announced

construction works had begun on the commercial areas at Larnaca Airport, which are overseen by Aer Rianta International company CTC-ARI (trading as Cyprus Airports Duty Free) and Cyprus Airports F&B Ltd. As mentioned, the work is expected to last 18 months and will be executed in

P&C zone measures 850sq m, but this is expected to lift to 956sq m when the refurbishment completes. The existing total commercial footprint

spans 6,754sq m and covers duty free, retail and F&B. Souvenirs, fashion, jewellery, watches, accessories, children’s toys and electronics take the lion’s share of the retail space (1,315sq m), followed by P&C (850sq m), liquor (600sq m), confectionery (220sq m) and tobacco (140sq m). The project is being supported by the

expertise of The Design Solution (TDS) and Pragma Consulting, who became involved in discussions to re-shape the commercial space around three years ago. Elias Liolios, Senior Manager

CAM issues RFP for duty free at Macau Int.

Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) has issued a request for proposal to operate the North Departure Level Airside duty free subconcession at Macau International Airport (MIA). The five-year contact, which runs

from 7 November to 6 November 2024, covers a variety of shops and kiosks at the Passenger Terminal Building totalling

approximately 1,122sq m. It is currently held by The Shilla Duty

Free and Sky Connection joint venture Sky Shilla, whose five-year concession expires in November. The deadline for submissions, which

includes the design, layout, concept development and construction of the duty free shop, is 12 noon (local time) 29 July, with the winners named in October. Shilla/Sky Connection was appointed

alongside King Power Group for two five- year DF&TR airside departure contracts in 2014. King Power last year won the Southside concession in a joint venture with partner King Power Macau and China Duty Free Group.

Commercial and Business Development at Hermes Airports told TRBusiness: “We have documented that we want to be best-in-class. We want people to walk through this and be wowed [...] and with TDS we have in our plans ways to get adjacent product offerings between retail and F&B that are going to create a market atmosphere.”

Fraport lifts stake in Lima Airport Partners

Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport AG has upped its stake in Lima Airport Partners S.R.L (LAP), a consortium which runs Jorge Chávez International Airport. The purchase from long-running

stakeholder AC Capitales Infrastructure Fund means Fraport AG now owns 80.01% in LAP – up from 70.01%. It comes during an important expansion

and growth phase for the Peruvian hub, which includes a second runway, new passenger terminal and related infrastructure and facilities. LAP began managing Lima Airport under

a concession in 2001, when passenger traffic was approximately 4.1m. Last year, the airport welcomed 22.1m passengers (+7.3%). In April this year, traffic climbed by the

same percentage to 1.8m, while Fraport’s Brazilian airports at Fortaleza and Porto Alegre returned growth of +12.1%. Retail & Real Estate revenue at Fraport AG declined by -2.8% in 2018 to €507.2m.
