operator is investing KRW4.2tn ($3.6bn) in an ongoing extension of the terminal to construct a new runway and lift the airport’s total passenger capacity to approximately 100m. “We will open other arrivals duty


free shops in 2023 after the post-phase construction of Terminal 2,” Dong-Ik Shin, Director of Concessions Planning Team, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) told TRBusiness in an exclusive interview. Further detail on the stores was not


immediately available, yet it is foreseeable the footprint could be larger than those won by Entas Duty Free and SM Duty Free. The retailers secured South Korea’s first duty free arrivals shops at Incheon Airport


having been shortlisted in March. At the time of writing, SM Duty Free was


due to unveil two shops over 380sq m at the eastern and western zones of Terminal 1, with Entas Duty Free starting operations at a single 326sq m unit at Terminal 2’s port of entry on 31 May. Both contracts run for five years with total sales tipped to reach circa KRW100bn


($80m) in the first year. Tobacco is excluded under current rules


permitting the operation of the stores and [unless legislation changes – Ed] those rules are expected to apply to future shops. The current purchase ceiling is $600,


but TRBusiness understands public demand could increase that threshold to up to $1,000 in the future.


Boulevard to transform retail at Florianópolis Airport


Up to 35 new retail and F&B units are set to arrive at Brazil’s Florianópolis International Airport as part of a development being undertaken by operator Floripa Airport. The R$20m ($4.9m) mixed-use


Boulevard 14/32 leisure complex is due to open alongside the airport’s new terminal on 1 October.


The commercial area itself occupies


3,500sq m as part of a total 11,000sq m footprint of indoor and open public areas featuring shopping, entertainment and dining options. Floripa Airport, a subsidiary of Swiss


concessionaire Zurich Airport, revealed Boulevard 14/32 last month. The architectural onus is being placed


on crafting ‘a contemporary, comfortable and humanised’ space, one which provides ‘unforgettable experiences to its visitors’, according to the operator. A covered central plaza with a stage joins


gastronomy, shopping, entertainment and service areas. Design cues emphasise a ‘dynamic,


wide and cool space,’ which is flexible and environmentally aware, with a wood- look lining and central roofs creating an abundance of natural light supported by


dynamic textures and colours. Tobias Markert, CEO, Floripa Airport


said: “Around the world, airports have expanded their structures for leisure and service spaces. “And did this, for two reasons: for the


passengers, it becomes a place already in the way, which guarantees economy of time; and for the general population, represents an option with excellent quality, easy access and [is] always open.” Separately, TRBusiness understands


Floripa Airport is finalising retail contracts for the new R$550m ($134.1m) passenger terminal, which spans 49,000sq m and has the capacity to handle 8m passengers per year. In October, the operator launched


a commercial tender for 44 packages (including 32 retail shops, 16 restaurants and other services) spanning over 4,000sq m.
