KAILAS FUGA Dolomiti Extreme Trail VENETO, ITALY
Created in 2013, the Dolomiti Extreme Trail (DXT) has become one of Italy’s most respected trail running events, known for its strong organisation and the extraordinary beauty of its mountain courses. The race takes place in the Val di Zoldo, deep within the Belluno Dolomites in the Veneto region — an area that has retained a distinctly authentic character, far removed from mass tourism. The valley is framed by two iconic 3,000-metre Dolomite massifs, Monte Pelmo and Monte Civetta, whose sheer limestone walls dominate the skyline. The dramatic peaks of Monte Civetta are even reflected in the Alpine waters of Lake Coldai, creating a landscape of striking contrasts that defines the atmosphere of the event. The DXT offers seven different races, designed
to suit a wide range of abilities — from demanding ultra-distance challenges to shorter, more accessible routes, including a dedicated course for younger participants. Each race delivers a highly technical and emotional mountain experience, fully showcasing the natural terrain and character of the region. The courses cross a variety of rugged
Alpine environments: untouched forests, steep ascents, wide scree fields and narrow trails that weave between some of the most iconic peaks in the Dolomites, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Along the way, runners encounter natural obstacles such as roots, streams and significant elevation gains, demanding both physical endurance and mental resilience at every stage. At the heart of the event lies Forno di Zoldo,
where the DXT Village, start and finish areas are based. Throughout race week, the village comes alive with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, supported by more than 300 local volunteers. This strong involvement from the community is central to the event’s identity, helping it maintain a genuine, grounded spirit despite its international reputation. More than a race, the DXT is an immersive
mountain journey. It brings together physical challenge, emotional intensity and a deep connection with nature, offering participants the chance to experience one of the most spectacular and unspoiled landscapes in the Dolomites.
